Tottenham transfer: Richard Rios bid made after new £83m reveal

Ange Postecoglou wants Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios at Tottenham in the winter transfer window, according to CaughtOffside.

The news outlet reports (14 January) that the 24-year-old is on Spurs’ wish list in January but they have seen their first bid rejected already.

Spurs will have to contend with Everton and Nottingham Forest, who have joined the race for the Colombia international.

It’s unclear how much the Brazilian outfit want for their midfielder, but his release clause is said to be £83million.

Tottenham will find Richard Rios transfer difficult

Tottenham will undoubtedly find it difficult to sign Rios from Palmeiras without splashing the cash, considering his enormous release clause.

The Colombian ace also recently signed a new contract at the Brazilian outfit, which will keep him there until 2028.

So, the Sao Paulo side seemingly are in no rush to sell their star midfielder in the coming months, making an approach tricky for the North Londoners.

While Tottenham will arguably not be worried about Everton or Forest, considering the finances involved, it remains to be seen whether Daniel Levy will put his hands in his pockets.

Spurs are dealing with several injuries in their squad, with Postecoglou forced to rely on Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray as his centre-back partnership in recent matches.

Yves Bissouma has been relied upon in the number six position, but the former Brighton ace has been underwhelming this season.

Tottenham could do with a defensive midfielder before the 3 February deadline, but the priority at the moment should be a centre-back.

The Lilywhites can wait until the summer to make a move for Rios, who doesn’t seem to be going anywhere if Palmeiras don’t budge on their demands.

In other Tottenham news, another exit from N17 is on the cards with a loan move targeted.
