Tottenham transfer ‘bombshell’ as Leroy Sane talks begin

Leroy Sane is on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar as his Bayern Munich contract winds down and talks over a free transfer have begun, according to Fichajes.

The Spanish outlet reported on 5 February that as the 29-year-old Germany international enters the final months of his contract at Bayern, Spurs are one of the “main interested parties” keen on signing him in a bombshell deal.

Sane remains a key player for the Bavarians, who are confident of tying him down to a new deal, but an agreement is yet to be reached and Spurs see signing him as an “unrivalled” opportunity in the market.

A return to the Premier League – where he won two titles with Manchester City in 2018 and 2019 – could therefore be on the cards for Sane, as the Lilywhites pursue a “real coup” in the form of a free transfer.

Could Tottenham complete Leroy Sane transfer?

The Lilywhites’ pursuit of reinforcements out wide once again takes them to Bavaria, and should they win what’s expected to be a headed transfer race for Sane, they’ll become the envy of several other clubs.

Spurs have very recent experience of doing business with Bayern after signing French youth international Mathys Tel on a Deadline Day loan-to-buy deal, and he could hold the key in their pursuit of Sane.

As well as loaning in Tel for the rest of the current season, Spurs have the option to make the move permanent for £45.7million [David Ornstein, 3 February], and this may also influence Bayern’s actions.

Should Tel hit the ground running in North London and make Daniel Levy likely to push the button on that hefty buy option, Bayern will be losing him permanently – making it more likely that they’ll keep Sane.

Likewise, Tel’s displays not justifying such an outlay could see him return to Germany at season’s end, and if Spurs can instead bring in his team-mate for free, you’d expect them to jump at the chance.
