Tottenham to start talks over signing free agent amid Richarlison uncertainty
Tottenham are looking to bolster their striker options in the summer to avoid another disappointing season in the Premier League.
Ange Postecoglou’s side has had an abysmal domestic season as they are on course to miss out on European football for next season unless they manage to win the UEFA Europa League.
One of the biggest concerns for Postecoglou has been his under-firing attack with strikers Dominic Solanke and Richarlison both missing a big chunk of games because of injuries.
The duo have a combined goal tally of just nine Premier League goals this term, posing serious concerns about goalscoring in the team. To combat that, the North London side are looking to sign a striker in the upcoming transfer window.

Tottenham to get rid of Richarlison
The Lilywhites signed Richarlison for £60million but the Brazilian has failed to prove his worth at N17. With the player now entering the final two years of his deal at Tottenham, the club hierarchy is ready to cut their losses on the former Everton forward.
The 27-year-old has had a tumultuous time at Spurs this season, missing 37 games for the club because of various injuries. In the limited time he has been on the pitch for the North Londoners, he has scored just three goals.
With Richarlison set to be offloaded, Spurs have already scouted the striker market and were keen to bring Lille forward Jonathan David to N17. Tottenham tried to bring David in January, but the 25-year-old decided to see out his contract in France.
Competition | Matches | Goals | Assists |
Ligue 1 | 24 | 14 | 3 |
UEFA Champions League | 10 | 7 | 2 |
UEFA Champions League qualification | 4 | 2 | 2 |
Coupe de France | 3 | – | 3 |
David is now set to become a free agent at the end of the season and Spurs could revisit a move in the summer, as per iNews. Depending on who remains in charge of Tottenham in the summer, the Canadian striker’s file could be reopened.
David has been tearing the Ligue 1 apart, scoring 14 goals in 24 league appearances in the 2024-25 season. The 25-year-old has been with Lille for the last five years and has netted 107 goals in the process. He is a reliable goalscorer who could be a huge coup for Spurs on a free transfer.

Dominic Solanke needs to step up
With Spurs looking for a striker like David in the summer and Richarlison on the verge of being sold, pressure is about to increase on Solanke to deliver goals. The Englishman arrived at N17 with a reputation of being a reliable goalscorer but he has failed to live up to the expectations.
In 20 Premier League games, the former Bournemouth man has seven goals to his name and has often been seen struggling in front of the goal.
If David is to arrive before the next season, Solanke will have to prove his worth or he risks losing his starting spot in the team.
