Tottenham are poised to hold meetings after Cristian Romero agreed terms on a brand-new contract.

Ange Postecoglou and his players are looking to end Spurs' 17-year trophy drought by lifting the UEFA Europa League this month.

The Lilywhites will play Bodø/Glimt at the Aspmyra Stadion on Thursday (8 May) and head into the semi-final second leg with a 3-1 lead after victory in the first leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (1 May).

However, regardless of what happens in this fixture, it is already shaping up to be a busy summer at Hotspur Way with the potential departure of Postecoglou, while Romero's future is also a hot topic.

Atletico Madrid in advanced negotiations for Romero

As reported by Uriel Iugt (6 May), Atletico Madrid are in advanced negotiations with Tottenham for the transfer of Romero.

Spurs are expected to hold a meeting with Atletico in the coming days and have already informed the La Liga side of Romero's value.

Tottenham should replace Romero with Dean Huijsen

Huijsen has garnered a lot of attention in recent months.

In almost double the games played compared with Romero, the Bournemouth centre-back has won 109 duels and made 171 clearances and 41 interceptions - he even has three goals to his name [Premier League].

While Romero has a greater tackle success rate, 83 per cent to Huijsen's 70 per cent, he falls short in duels won (89), clearances (52) and interceptions (21).

Availability is said to be the best ability, and Romero has failed to crack 20 appearances in the Premier League this season.

The future of Tottenham lies in investing in their youth, with Archie Gray (19), Lucas Bergvall (19), and Wilson Odobert (20) just some of the names expected to carry the mantle.

Huijsen (20), in all his talent, youth and glory, will fit well into a Spurs side looking to compete in the coming years.
