Tottenham to get one over on Arsenal in audacious Kyran Thompson swoop, 'A really good pick-up'
Tottenham could be about to strike a blow on fierce rivals Arsenal by poaching Kyran Thompson.
Spurs youth expert John Wenham relayed information he has heard on a possible deal exclusively to Tottenham News.
Thompson previously rejected advances from Tottenham to instead join Arsenal from West Ham United.
Arsenal paid a compensation fee for Thompson in the hope he would go on to become a first-team star and repay that nine-figure fee multiple times over.
However, he now appears to be on his way across North London to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
And based on what has been said about the youngster, he really could be a special talent.
What position does Kyran Thompson play?
Thompson was recently said to be in talks with Arsenal over signing a new deal.
His current contract is due to expire early next week, meaning he is therefore also free to speak with other teams.
The teenager has been hailed as one of the brightest young talents in English football.
And Wenham is excited about his possible move to Hotspur Way, possibly as early as next week.
"I've heard that Tottenham are going to sign a youngster out of Arsenal - Kyran Thompson," Wenham said.
"Tottenham really tried to get him two years ago, but he turned us down to go to Arsenal. Arsenal paid £1.1 million in compensation to get him from West Ham, and now Tottenham are seemingly set to sign him.
"He can play on the right wing, albeit last season he played mostly as a No. 9 for Arsenal. He's a really good pick-up, and there could be a world where Tottenham have got Kyran Thompson on the right wing and Tynan Thompson on the left wing, albeit they're not related.
"It's interesting that Tottenham have managed to secure him, getting him out of Arsenal, considering his dad is a big Arsenal fan, by all accounts.”
It sounds as though Thompson could possibly play in numerous positions, then, and he is very much one for the future.
Arsenal had bright plans for Max Dowman 2.0
Arsenal were clearly desperate to land Thompson, given they paid as much as they did to get him from West Ham.
The 16-year-old has already trained with the first team and is a regular at age-grade level.
Previous reports have likened Thompson's development at Arsenal to that of Max Dowman, who made headlines at senior level last season.
Nobody can get carried away, and the key will be allowing Thompson to breathe in the Under-18s and then Under-21s sides.
That is if he does indeed join, of course, with nothing being made official as of yet.
As and when that happens, though, it will be a massive coup for Tottenham.
