Alejo Veliz has flown out to Brazil to complete a transfer to Bahia, with his time as a Tottenham Hotspur player set to end.

Signed in the summer of 2023, Veliz was one of the hottest properties in Argentine football at the time of his Tottenham move.

Just 19-years old upon his arrival in North London, the striker joined from Rosario Central for a reported fee of £13million.

He'd scored 19 times in 63 total appearances for the Argentine outfit, as well as netting 11 goals in 24 appearances in his final 2023 campaign before leaving for Spurs.

As such, Veliz was expected to blossom into a first-team star with Tottenham, but that's been far from his N17 truth.

Now it appears as though he's finally bringing a close to a fairly disastrous few years as a Lilywhites player, with South America reportedly calling for the 22-year-old.

Finances involved in Alejo Veliz' Tottenham exit

Contracted with Tottenham until the summer of 2029, there's still plenty of time for both parties to try and make it work in North London if they wanted to.

Alas, that doesn't appear to be the case, as a report from Football.London claims that Veliz has flown out to Brazil to complete a transfer to Bahia.

It's claimed that a £7.8m deal has been agreed between Spurs and Bahia, as well as an additional £871,000 in add-ons to take the total package closer to £9m.

However, perhaps the shrewdest piece of financial business Tottenham have done with this transfer is regarding their reported sell-on fee.

That's because the report claims that the deal agreed involves Spurs holding a 20 per cent sell-on clause, meaning they would receive 20 per cent of Veliz's next transfer fee.

This means that should the striker go on to reach his potential with Bahia, then Tottenham have safeguarded themselves against missing out on a slice of the financial pie later down the line.

How did Veliz fare last season?

If Veliz is to leave Tottenham this summer, then he will go having made just eight competitive first-team appearances with just the one goal to his name.

Spurs let him leave N17 on loan last summer, linking back up with Rosario Central where he initially helped himself to five goals and one assist in their 2025 season.

Following on from that, he netted six times in 24 appearances over the course of the 2026 campaign, meaning he wasn't quite able to keep his goalscoring form up towards the end of his loan spell.

But at 22 and with perhaps his best football still ahead of him back in South America, Tottenham now have a big sell-on reason to hope he really kicks on with Bahia.
