Tottenham ready to negotiate over ‘bombshell’ James Maddison exit

Tottenham are not against cashing in on James Maddison this summer as details of a mega-rich offer come to light.

Maddison has remained a key player for Spurs despite being susceptible to being an inconsistent performer, bagging 11 goals and nine assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.

As one of the senior players in Ange Postecoglou’s squad, the England international has also captained Tottenham on a few occasions this term.

The midfielder is contracted to the North London giants until 2028, but there are no guarantees he will be around next season, let alone three years later.

Manchester City eye Maddison as Kevin de Bruyne replacement

In a shock turn of events, Maddison has emerged as an option to replace Kevin de Bruyne at Manchester City this summer.

De Bruyne announced his decision to leave the reigning Premier League champions at the end of the season last week, meaning Pep Guardiola would have to find a replacement for one of his best players.

Manchester City view Maddison as a ‘natural’ replacement for De Bruyne, according to Fichajes.net.

The news outlet reported via their website on Saturday (12 April) that the Cityzens are willing to pay £60million for the 28-year-old, although they are yet to formalise the offer.

While Spurs do not want to sell Maddison, they are prepared to negotiate a transfer if they receive a £60m offer.

Maddison to Manchester City is already being tipped to become one of the most talked-about transfers of the summer, with the potential move described as a ‘bombshell’.

Tottenham must cash in on Maddison

There is no denying that Maddison has been an important player for Tottenham since joining them from Leicester for £40m in 2023.

However, the Englishman will turn 29 in November, and it is highly improbable that he commands a fee anywhere near £60m in the future.

By accepting City’s offer, Spurs can pocket a profit on Maddison, while also being able to reinvest that sum into new signings after what he has been a disappointing season under Postecoglou.
