Tottenham ‘push for Axel Disasi deal with Chelsea’ in new Fabrizio Romano update

Tottenham are pushing to agree a deal with Chelsea for Axel Disasi, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The renowned Italian journalist reported via X [2 February] that negotiations are ongoing between Spurs and their London rivals for the French defender.

He claims that Lilywhites want to bring in another centre-back before the 3 February deadline after completing the signing of Kevin Danso.

The North London outfit face competition from Aston Villa, who Romano states have agreed terms with the player but not his club.

Tottenham need more than one defensive recruit

Hijacking Wolves deal for Danso was a good piece of business; getting Disasi as well would be superb.

Ange Postecoglou has struggled with defensive injuries this season with the likes of Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Ben Davies, Destiny Udogie and Guglielmo Vicario ruled out for significant periods.

The Australian has been forced to utilise Archie Gray across the backline as a makeshift defender and Radu Dragusin is not at the same level as the starting duo.

The former Celtic man will be relieved that he finally has some solid defensive cover if Spurs add both Danso and Disasi to their ranks.

The focus must then turn to attacking reinforcements, with Dominic Solanke still out injured and Richarlison’s persistent fitness issues.

When the deadline passes, all focus will be on the EFL Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool, where if Spurs can maintain their 1-0 lead they will have the chance to win their first trophy since 2008.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs have been urged to recall a loan star after an “unbelievable” Postecoglou jibe.
