Tottenham in pole position to sign ‘next Lionel Messi’ in transfer masterstroke

Tottenham’s squad is in dire need of a rebuild this summer after an awful season under Ange Postecoglou.

Multiple stars are likely to depart in the transfer window, with Cristian Romero being linked with Atletico Madrid recently.

However, plenty of incomings are needed if the club are going to be fighting for Europe next season.

As a result, plenty of names have been linked to Spurs, with club apparently leading the race for Lyon’s Rayan Cherki.

Tottenham, Rayan Cherki

Tottenham set to fight Man United for Rayan Cherki

Cherki is one of the most exciting talents in Europe at the moment. The Lyon attacker has shone in Ligue 1 as the club looks to secure Champions League football.

So far this campaign, he has netted 12 goals, including four in the Europa League and picked up a staggering 19 assists, with eight of these being in Europe.

Cherki has earned plenty of plaudits in England as well. Against Man United, the attacker netted two goals across the Europa League quarter-final, including a stoppage-time equaliser in the first leg.

His feats are no doubt remarkable, especially given that he is only 21 years of age.

This has prompted some big praise from the former Lyon President, Jean-Michel Aulas. He told Get Football News France (21 April): Rayan has a talent comparable to (Lionel) Messi in terms of technique.”

Now, Cherki is being linked with a sensational move to Tottenham to help rebuild the club’s squad.

According to CaughtOffside (29 April), Tottenham and Manchester United are leading the race to sign the attacker.

Bayern Munich are also believed to be interested in the 21-year-old, but the two English giants are currently ahead.

It would also only cost between £25.5 million and £29.8 million to sign the attacker, which is considered a bargain.

Tottenham need to do everything in their power to sign Cherki

It’s not very often that a player of that calibre is available for such a good price.

Cherki is clearly a star in the making, and his record in Europe shows that he is more than capable of making the step up into the Premier League.

Given Tottenham’s current issues in attack, the 21-year-old would be transformative to the club and help provide a consistent threat in the opposition’s box.

If Daniel Levy wants to see Spurs back in the top six next season, then the club must bring in the French attacker in the summer.
