Tottenham given green signal as talks opened for £50m transfer

Tottenham are braced for a busy summer window ahead after qualifying for the Champions League by winning the Europa League.

Spurs beat Manchester United in the final in Bilbao and will play in Europe’s top tier competition despite finishing 17th in the league.

However, despite guiding them to their first trophy since 2008, Ange Postecoglou is still in danger of the sack.

Mathys Tel talks opened with Bayern Munich amid £50m hurdle

According to TBR Football (28 May), Mathys Tel has given the green signal to Spurs as he’s open to a permanent move in the summer.

Bayern Munich and Tottenham had agreed on a £50million fee to buy him permanently but the latter are unwilling to pay that much.

This has seen talks opened between the two clubs over a potential transfer this summer.

Tel’s future is in doubt at Tottenham.

Despite struggling initially, the 20-year-old managed to impress, becoming a regular under Postecoglou.

Spurs are keen on signing him and are looking to bring down Bayern’s asking price to £33.5million, along with potential performance-related add-ons.

Tottenham must be prepared to move on if valuation is not reduced

Tel would be a decent signing for Tottenham but it’s not the end of the world if they do not sign him.

With only three goals and one assist in 20 appearances, the Frenchman has not justified the high valuation, giving Spurs leverage to argue for a £33.5million base fee plus performance-related add-ons.

They can emphasise his struggle to secure a starting role under Postecoglou and the risk Bayern face of losing him for less if he returns without a guaranteed spot.

Given the market for attackers, Spurs could pressure Bayern to compromise, fearing a lower future offer.

If Bayern refuse to budge, the Lilywhites should be prepared to walk away, focusing on other high-potential youngsters who better fit their budget and tactical needs.

This approach aligns with their youth recruitment strategy, ensuring financial prudence while maintaining squad development for Champions League ambitions.
