Tottenham Hotspur now have a decision to make over the future of Cristian Romero.

The Spurs captain missed the end of the Premier League campaign due to injury and still managed to cause controversy.

He wanted to jet back to Argentina to watch his boyhood club Belgrano face River Plate, meaning he would have missed Spurs' final day clash with Everton.

With the threat of relegation potentially on the line that day, the skipper's potential absence certainly didn't go down well.

It felt from that point as if the 28-year-old would be on his way out of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

A deal for Romero may now become complicated as Manchester United enter the race.

Manchester United want Cristian Romero

The defender has certainly been a frustrating figure throughout his career in North London.

His antics have often gone from the sublime to the ridiculous as his defensive talents have been clouded by red cards and poor discipline.

This has become somewhat of a lazy stereotype surrounding the defender, but it certainly didn't help the Lilywhites this season in yet another 17th place finish.

That has left many to question whether the ex-Atalanta man could be on the move this summer as Roberto De Zerbi exercises a total refresh in N17.

With Romero's future currently up in the air, Argentine journalist Gaston Edul has reported that Manchester United are interested in the centre back.

The Red Devils are said to be preparing an offer for the Spurs captain as the summer window edges ever closer.

Tottenham must reconsider Romero's future if Man United make offer

There has been true interest from the Lilywhites in Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke.

The Dutchman would certainly cost a pretty penny and would likely be guaranteed starting minutes by De Zerbi and Co.

That sort of deal is only likely to go through if Romero is to move on, but it would be silly to allow him to join Man United.

Despite being 14 places apart in the Premier League table, the Lilywhites need to see Michael Carrick's men as a rival.

Letting your captain go is one thing, but to someone who you may be battling with next season would be silly.

Spurs haven't exactly been clever in recent years, so it feels as if this sort of deal could still go through regardless of this dilemma.
