Tottenham ‘desperate’ for transfer as Richarlison injury news emerges

Tottenham are “absolutely in the market” to sign a striker before the winter transfer window closes on 3 February, according to Jeremy Langdon.

The Sky Sports News journalist reported live from Spurs’ Enfield training centre on 29 January, having spotted Richarlison in action after the Brazilian came off with a groin strain against Leicester on Sunday.

Despite Richarlison looking likely to be available against Elfsborg on Thursday, Ange Postecoglou is still “desperate” to strengthen the Lilywhites’ frontline with just five days of the window remaining.

Langdon said: “Tottenham are desperate for reinforcements, particularly in the forward areas after being hit by injuries.

“Richarlison is okay, he’s out there training today despite coming off on Sunday – but Spurs are absolutely in the market for a forward.”

Tottenham face now-or-never scenario for forward transfer

Richarlison potentially being fit and firing to face Elfsborg in a must-win Europa League clash is a huge boost for Postecoglou – namely because otherwise, Spurs don’t have any fit first-team strikers.

Will Lankshear would likely be the one to lead the Lilywhites’ attack against the Allsvenskan side in the event of Richarlison being absent, with Dominic Solanke, Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson all missing.

James Maddison has since joined the attacking trio on the treatment table in North London, with Spurs’ frontline quickly becoming just as injury-hit as their heavily depleted rearguard in recent weeks.

Signing someone like Tyler Dibling from Southampton could be an option, but given he’s an 18-year-old playing his first season of Premier League football, a summer approach would be a much wiser move.

It remains to be seen how Spurs will line up against Elfsborg this week, but with the window closing, Postecoglou will hope there are some fresh faces on the training paddock soon.
