Tottenham could seal January transfer after brand new Celtic reveal

Tottenham face competition from Celtic for St Patrick’s Athletic wonderkid Mason Melia, according to The Sun.

The newspaper reported on its website on 8 January that Spurs have already had a £1million offer for the 17-year-old rejected last month.

It is said that the Lilywhites could renew their interest and look to seal a deal as early as the winter transfer window.

However, the Irish sensation would not be able to join until January 2026, the next transfer window after he turns 18, due to Brexit regulations.

Tottenham ready transfer after Celtic reveal

Spurs should push to complete a deal for the Ireland Under-19 star this month to ward off interest from the likes of the Hoops, Eintracht Frankfurt and Genk.

While he could not make the move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until next year, securing his signature and then allowing him to continue his development in his homeland would be a shrewd move.

The youngster featured 35 times for the Irish club’s first-team last season notching nine goal contributions (seven goals, two assists).

He became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the League of Ireland, at the age of 15 years and 281 days old in June 2023, when he came off the substitutes bench to score against UCD.

He seems to have a promising future within the game with clubs all over Europe tracking him, so Spurs should strike before he moves elsewhere.

Obviously, Ange Postecoglou needs additions that can contribute to the first team immediately but he should also be planning for the future.
