Tottenham ‘could get Rashford transfer answer in hours’

Daniel Levy may well find out on Wednesday whether Tottenham have a realistic chance of signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (14 January) reported via Milan News [14 January] that the Man United outcast will meet this brother, also his agent, to decide on where he will play his football for the rest of the season.

While AC Milan are believed to be leading the running, Spurs have opened preliminary talks with Manchester United regarding a short-term loan move, as per The Independent [13 January].

Until official confirmation emerges on a decision from M16, Tottenham remain firmly in the race for his signature.

Di Marzio said: “From the signals coming from Manchester, [Wednesday] will be a decisive day. A meeting is expected between his brother, who is also the player’s agent, and Manchester United.

“Milan are waiting for news. The signals are of a day that will make it clear whether Rashford will be Milan’s.”

Tottenham to sign Marcus Rashford?

Ever since the 27-year-old revealed to esteemed journalist Henry Winter on 17 December that he wishes to pursue a new challenge away from Old Trafford, his future has become a hot topic of debate.

His reported £325,000-a-week salary has proved to be a major sticking point for interested parties, and a move to North London will entirely depend on how much of the salary Manchester United are willing to cover.

However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe may be left with no option but to take the brunt of the wages to ensure he leaves Manchester before the deadline slams shut on 3 February.

The England international’s last start came in the 4-0 win against Everton on 1 December, wherein he bagged himself a brace. He has not featured at all for Ruben Amorim since his 31-minute cameo in the 3-2 loss against Nottingham Forest on 7 December.

Manchester United cannot afford to allow a player of his calibre and hefty salary to waste away on the sidelines until May, and must resolve a swift exit to ensure they are in a healthy position to sanction a permanent sale in the summer.

While the challenge of testing his skills in Italy may be tempting, Rashford may be better served remaining in England. Tottenham are undoubtedly the most illustrious Premier League option.

Daniel Levy has already suffered one public embarrassment after the pursuit of PSG forward Randal Kolo Muani resulted in a loan move to Juventus [Fabrizio Romano] – if Spurs are truly a contender for Rashford, he needs to get on the phone to Old Trafford and not hang up until he gets the green light.
