Timo Werner bombshell: MLS club in talks to sign Tottenham ace now

Timo Werner is in talks with New York Red Bulls over joining them from Tottenham during the winter transfer window, according to Santi Aouna.

The French journalist reported via Foot Mercato (25 January) that the Germany international could leave for the Major League Soccer (MLS) club in the “coming weeks”.

As things stand, it is unclear if all parties involved, including Spurs and parent club RB Leipzig, can find a “common ground” over the forward’s transfer.

Timo Werner to leave Tottenham for New York Red Bulls?

It would not be a surprise to see Werner join New York Red Bulls considering he is still contracted to Leipzig, who, like the MLS outfit, are under Red Bull’s ownership.

However, it remains to be seen if it will be complicated to pull off such a transfer at this stage in the season, especially with the winter transfer window closing on 3 February.

Werner’s performances for Tottenham this season have left much to be desired, with the former Chelsea forward having only three assists to show for his 17 Premier League appearances.

Therefore, there is no reason why Spurs would not agree to cut short his loan deal if they can reach an agreement with Leipzig and the New York Red Bulls.

Werner’s departure would free up some funds for the North London giants to possibly strengthen their ranks for the second half of the season, especially as Ange Postecoglou battles through an injury crisis in the squad.

The Greek-Australian manager has been without Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Guglielmo Vicario and Dominic Solanke recently.

In other Tottenham news, Alan Shearer has mooted Postecoglou to be sacked after what he noticed.
