Ruben Amorim has offered his resignation at Manchester United after the Red Devils were beaten by Tottenham in the UEFA Europa League final.

Tottenham ended their 17-year wait for silverware by beating Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final at the Estadio de San Mamés on Wednesday (21 May).

Brennan Johnson scored the goal that wrote himself, his teammates, and Postecoglou's names into the history books at Tottenham. Despite this, Postecoglou's future at Tottenham remains uncertain.

However, it seems as though Amorim is in a similar boat to Postecoglou.

Amorim twice offers to resign from Manchester United

Manchester United are in a state of emergency after losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final.

The showpiece in Bilbao was a must-win for both teams, considering their position in the Premier League. However, Amorim's side lost the contest, meaning United will not play in Europe next season for the first time since the 2014/15 campaign.

Guillem Balague shared via X on Friday (23 May) that Amorim has twice offered to leave Manchester United if the Red Devils don't feel as though the Portuguese coach is the right man for the job.

These offers are understood to be genuine, rather than a plea for attention, with Amorim keen not to get in the way at Old Trafford. However, Manchester United are not considering replacing the 42-year-old.

Tottenham fans should be grateful for Postecoglou

While his future remains uncertain, Tottenham fans owe a great debt of gratitude to Postecoglou.

Had Spurs suffered defeat to United, they would be without European football next season, and the wait for a trophy might have stretched on many more years.

However, instead, Tottenham cleared that mental hurdle by getting over the line and ending the drought, while they now have the Champions League and a UEFA Super Cup final to look forward to.

Therefore, while Postecoglou might still leave the Lilywhites, the 59-year-old would at least be leaving Spurs in a far better position than Amorim and United.
