Mathys Tel told Tottenham that he wants to stay at Bayern Munich in the winter transfer window, according to David Ornstein.

The Athletic journalist revealed on his personal X account (31 January) that the 19-year-old striker shared his plans with the North London outfit as he rejected a potential move.

Spurs had reached an agreement with the Bavarians for the France Under-21 international, but he wishes to remain at the Bundesliga outfit and reassess his future next summer.

Tottenham need to move on quick from Mathys Tel transfer rejection

The Lilywhites need to move quickly from Tel's rejection and pursue other targets before the 3 February deadline.

While it's disappointing to see the youngster opt against a switch to Tottenham, there is no time to waste to reinforce Ange Postecoglou's squad.

It may also be a blessing in disguise for the North London outfit, as the 19-year-old would evidently have needed time to settle in.

Spurs need a short-term solution right now for their goalscoring issues after Dominic Solanke picked up an injury recently.

The Lilywites have also been without some of their defenders over the last few weeks, with the Australian manager having to play Archie Gray at centre-back.

Micky van de Ven finally returned to action for Tottenham as they beat Elfsborg 3-0 in the Europa League at home on Thursday (30 January).

The North Londoners will arguably need to bolster their ranks before deadline day to boost their chances of qualifying for the Carabao Cup final.

Who Daniel Levy will now pursue to add depth up front remains to be seen.
