Matheus Cunha deal: ‘Lucrative’ Wolves agreement close amid Tottenham pursuit
Tottenham are set to miss out on the signing of Matheus Cunha as he is set to commit his future to Wolves, according to The Telegraph.
The newspaper reported via their website on 5 January that the Brazil international is edging closer to signing a “lucrative” contract at the Molineux Stadium, with talks expected to be concluded in two weeks.
Spurs have been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old this season [TBR Football], while his recent form has caught Arsenal’s interest, but the Wanderers are on course to tie him down to a new deal.
There will be a release clause included in Cunha’s new deal at Wolves, although that will only become active if Vitor Pereira’s side drop down to the Championship.
Tottenham and Arsenal set to miss out on Matheus Cunha
Wolves face the risk of suffering relegation this season as they are placed 17th in the Premier League, sitting just a point above the relegation zone.
Cunha is one of the biggest reasons the West Midlands outfit are outside of the drop zone right now, with the attacker bagging 10 goals and four assists in 19 appearances.
Therefore, it is no wonder that the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in acquiring his services.
However, it appears the North London giants are set to miss out on Cunha’s signing for the time being as Wolves are set to hand him a fresh contract.
Things could change in the summer, particular if Wolves fail to retain their Premier League status.

It is unclear what the release clause will be in the event of a relegation, but Spurs will certainly have an eye on it.
For the time being, Ange Postecoglou’s side will focus on strengthening their squad for the second half of the season, with goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky already signed.
