Manchester City are "optimistic" that an opportunity to reach an agreement for the transfer of Tottenham star Pedro Porro could open up, according to GiveMeSport.

The news outlet reported online (1 November) that while Spurs are hopeful of keeping hold of the right-back, they have not ruled out the possibility of being persuaded into a transfer.

As a result, City, who are keeping tabs on Porro, have been given some optimism in their transfer pursuit.

However, Tottenham would prefer Porro to leave the Premier League should he be sold, with Real Madrid also interested. Therefore, the North London club are likely to charge City a higher price for the 25-year-old.

Manchester City want to sign Tottenham right-back Pedro Porro

Porro is a key player for Ange Postecoglou at Spurs. He is the club's starting right-back and at the age of 25, he still has plenty of time to improve.

Therefore, Postecoglou and Spurs are unlikely to want to let go of the Spain international, with John Wenham having even backed the full-back to sign a new contract in North London.

He has started every Premier League match thus far this season and should he depart from North London, he would leave behind a big hole which would need filing.

However, with the likes of Real Madrid and City sniffing around, keeping hold of Porro could prove tough.

Clubs don't come much bigger than City or Madrid, and when that type of interest emerges, most sides in Europe face a real fight to keep hold of their star players.

As a result, Spurs might end up being forced to let Porro leave, especially after what the defender said recently (via Fabrizio Romano, 9 October).
