Lucas Bergvall transfer bombshell drops in £54m Tottenham shock

Lucas Bergvall could be on his way out of Tottenham just a year after arriving from Djurgardens.

Spurs made Bergvall one of their four new signings last summer, roping him in on a five-year deal from the Swedish outfit for a sum of around £8.5million.

The midfielder has already proven to be a shrewd acquisition by Daniel Levy, having made 38 appearances across all competitions under Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham slap £54m price tag on Bergvall

It is worth noting that Tottenham beat several clubs, including Arsenal, Barcelona and Manchester United, to sign Bergvall last summer.

Spurs now face the prospect of losing the Sweden international as they risk missing out on Champions League football next season.

Levy could have players asking him to leave if the North London giants, who are placed 14th in the Premier League with nine games left, do not qualify for the Champions League.

Postecoglou’s side are seemingly aware that Bergvall is among those who could attract the most amount of interest if that is the case, as they have already slapped a £54m price tag on him, according to FotBollDirekt.

The Swedish outlet reported via their website on Thursday (27 March) that the 19-year-old’s value is now rated as highly as Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Larrson.

However, they do mention if any club have expressed concrete interest in signing Bergvall already.

Spurs to fend off Bergvall interest

While missing out on Champions League qualification will certainly weaken Tottenham’s position in transfer negotiations, it does not mean they will be forced to sell their best assets.

Their healthy finances and PSR situation mean that they are not in a position to raise funds to balance their books, although players may seek exits themselves.

It is worth noting that FotbollDirekt reported in January that Spurs have slapped a £43.9m price tag on Bergvall.

The outlet did not mention if there was significant transfer interest in the Swede on that occasion, too.
