Tottenham Hotspur could sign Angel Gomes during the final days of the transfer window with Daniel Levy on a "personal mission" to acquire him, according to GiveMeSport.

Dean Jones' report (28 January) indicates that a midfield signing has now become a priority, with Gomes top of the list for Levy in a move which could pacify Spurs fans' thoughts towards the much-maligned chairman.

Gomes will soon be a free agent from his contract at Lille, his performances for whom have gained him a spot in the England squad in the past year.

The 24-year-old is a target for Premier League clubs, with Levy having been understood to be taking a key involvement in discussions over a move.

Tottenham to attempt to sign Angel Gomes

Tottenham could be a viable destination for Gomes when the time comes to leave Lille, whether that be sooner or later.

The London-born midfielder may feel it is the right opportunity to return home, and Spurs are in desperate need of arrivals to come through the door to boost both squad capability and morale.

The Lilywhites' form has put Ange Postecoglou under a mountain of pressure as they are marooned 15th in the Premier League, but they are making encouraging progress away from league action.

Levy could use that as leverage to keep the Australian in post as manager, but the chairman himself is also the regular focus of much of the wrath from the N17 fanbase.

Gomes is formerly of Manchester United and first appeared in the Premier League as a teenager - whether he is keen now for a return to the English top flight is something Spurs fans should be hopeful for.
