Bayern Munich ready Tel transfer talks with Levy as Tottenham learn asking price

Tottenham are set to negotiate with Bayern Munich to sign Mathys Tel on a permanent deal.

The French forward was brought to Spurs on loan in the winter transfer window, with a £45million buy option included in the agreement, to help Ange Postecoglou cope with his extensive injury list.

Tel struggled to make an immediate impact as he was thrown into a chaotic and flawed team, but his performances steadily improved toward the end of the season.

There have been questions over whether Tottenham would pursue the 20-year-old, especially with the Lilywhites interested in Leroy Sane. However, talks are now set to take place with Daniel Levy.

Bayern Munich to lower asking price for Tel

Bayern will be privy to Levy’s reputation as a shrewd businessman and negotiator, having seen it first hand with transfers like Harry Kane and Eric Dier in recent seasons.

The German club will be equally aware that Tel hardly set North London alight during his loan spell, despite the Frenchman contributing to Spurs’ UEFA Europa League triumph.

As reported by Christian Falk (2 June), Bayern are now willing to renegotiate with Levy for Tel.

The Bayern CEO, Jan-Christian Dreesen, has a good relationship with Spurs and is open to lowering the initial asking price to £30million.

Tel himself is thought to be keen on the move, having bought into Tottenham’s project and quickly integrated himself into the squad and culture of the club.

Tel a risk worth taking for Tottenham

Spurs have assembled an exciting core of young players, which includes the likes of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray. However, the North London club’s lack of experience significantly harmed their league form.

Tel fits the profile of emerging talents, but has far more pedigree to handle the big stage, as was shown by his steady improvement over just a few months.

The France Under-21 international’s speed and raw talent make him an ideal understudy for captain Son Heung-min. Therefore, with some fine-tuning, he could turn him into a formidable weapon for Spurs.
