Ange Postecoglou issues caused by 'out-of-the-blue' Tottenham signing - Insider

Paul Robinson

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson played 175 times for Tottenham between 2004 and 2008, winning the League Cup with Spurs in the 2007/08 season. Since hanging up his gloves in 2017, Robinson has moved into the world of punditry and can be regularly seen or heard on Sky Sports and BBC Radio 5 Live. Tottenham News is now delighted to present Robinson as part of its team of experts.

Wilson Odobert has added to the squad issues currently being faced by Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, Paul Robinson has said.

Spurs splashed an initial £25million on the 20-year-old winger last summer [BBC Sport], but his time in North London has been plagued by injuries, making just five appearances in all competitions.

The expectation during the summer was for the Lilywhites to add defensive reinforcement to the squad, something that Postecoglou needs more than ever amid an injury crisis at Hotspur Way.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: "The squad is unbalanced, which I said at the start of the season. Looking at the players in the attacking areas - Kulusevski, Maddison, Bergvall, Johnson, Werner, Solanke, Odobert, that last one came out of the blue from Burnley.

"It's so unbalanced. Dragusin was the only recognised centre-half before Ben Davies was granted fit again, but covering the full-back and centre-back areas has been the problem."

Tottenham transfer plans causing issues for Ange Postecoglou

Postecoglou has a plethora of exciting talents at his disposal, which is proven by only Liverpool and Manchester City scoring more goals than Spurs in the Premier League.

At the other end of the pitch, the Lilywhites have conceded 16 goals in their last six league clashes, highlighting the key problems for Daniel Levy to attempt to fix during the winter window.

Despite this, goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky is the only arrival in North London so far, even with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero sidelined via their respective injuries.

Until this key area is addressed with new players, Postecoglou is bound to continue having issues.

Supporters are frustrated by results over the last two seasons, but with far too many key stars on the treatment table, it is almost impossible to put all the blame on the manager.
