Andy Robertson: Tottenham fans to be left wanting more after dismal Liverpool reveal
Tottenham Hotspur supporters are pretty excited by the signature of Andy Robertson.
The 32-year-old defender announced his Liverpool exit in April, and he reportedly had an agreement to join Spurs.
The Lilywhites have now confirmed that the Scotland captain will join on 1 July, when his Reds contract expires.
However, fans should temper their expectations when it comes to what the veteran will bring on the pitch.
His best days appear to be behind him, and the N17 side may not see the Robertson that they witnessed at Anfield.
How did Andy Robertson perform for Liverpool last season?
Robertson saw a major reduction in his playing time after the Merseysiders signed Milos Kerkez last summer.
The Scotsman featured 24 times in the Premier League, with just 11 of those being starts.
He has a reputation for notching assists, but he failed to get one, and created just three big chances, according to data from Tottenham News' official stats provider Statscore.
The veteran had a 24 per cent accuracy when it came to crosses, which does not inspire confidence that he can continue those exploits.
Defensively, he averaged 0.5 tackles, 1.7 ball recoveries and 1.3 clearances per game, which are pretty underwhelming numbers.
In terms of duels, he won 57 per cent on the ground and 48 per cent in the air.
Spurs fans may well be left wanting more than they actually get from the 93-cap international star, after the dismal Liverpool reveal.
Why the stats don't necessarily matter for Robertson or Tottenham
While the stats don't exactly paint a favourable picture and suggest Tottenham are getting a player who is not in his prime, the Scotsman is exactly what they need.
He knows what it means to win for starters, having picked up two Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and multiple domestic cups with the Reds.
The mentality and experience that he will bring to the squad means more than what he can achieve on the pitch.
His leadership should raise the levels in N17, as he will demand more from his teammates and make them play better, giving Roberto De Zerbi's side a bigger competitive edge.
The stats don't neccessarily matter in this case, as what he adds is a huge impact off the pitch, that should benefit Spurs on it.
