Xavi Simons’ first words as a Tottenham player as official announcement made
Tottenham have completed a deal to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.
The Lilywhites have begun the new Premier League campaign in impressive action, but they are on the hunt for more additions to the squad ahead of the imminent cut-off.
James Maddison’s injury has handed Spurs a fresh transfer priority, and they have now been able to source a quality replacement for the sidelined star.
Thomas Frank’s side have now taken their tally of summer signings to seven, and Simons has already issued a clear message upon his arrival in N17.

Xavi Simons ‘really happy’ to be Tottenham player
Simons is one of Tottenham’s biggest-ever transfer buys, with the deal eventually going through for a fee of around £51.8million.
The Dutchman will be a hugely exciting addition for the North Londoners, and he will bring ample quality to help fill the void that has been left by Maddison’s latest injury issue.
After sealing his arrival on Friday, he said in his first interview as a Spurs player: “I’m really happy and can’t wait to get going. I’ve been dreaming of this for a long time.
“It’s a great club and when I met the head coach I knew straight away that this was the right place for me.
“I will bring flair to the team but also hard work and discipline. I want to do everything I can to win, for the team and also for the fans.”
Simons notched 17 goal contributions in the Bundesliga last term, an excellent return from his final tally of just 25 league appearances for Leipzig.
- Simons has notched 36 goal involvements across his two full seasons with Leipzig
- He previously hit 19 goals and eight assists in a single season for PSV in 2022/23
- He already has 28 senior caps for the Netherlands and is a product of PSG’s academy
The 22-year-old is the latest in a long line of promising talents to depart the controversial German outfit to head for the Premier League, and Spurs will be hoping that he can recreate that impressive form in England.

Daniel Levy deserves praise for Tottenham spending
Tottenham will take even more pleasure in Simons’ signing given that they moved swiftly to beat their bitter rivals Chelsea to the deal.
This pursuit has been in total contrast to some of their previous efforts with the likes of Eberechi Eze this summer, where they were beaten to the punch after seemingly dragging their feet in negotiations.
Player | Fee |
Mohammed Kudus | £55m |
Xavi Simons | £51.8m |
Mathys Tel | £30m |
Kevin Danso | £21.6m |
Luka Vuskovic | £12m |
Daniel Levy took plenty of criticism for that failure, but he is undoubtedly deserving of praise for Spurs’ window as a whole.
The Simons signing takes their total summer spend to a little over £120m, and based on the first two games, that figure appears to have been spent sensibly and resourcefully to improve the squad.
Mohammed Kudus has already hit the ground running at his new club, and if their latest acquisition can have a similar impact, then the Lilywhites have every right to be pleased with their business.
