Who is Sani Suleiman? Tottenham eye up transfer for teenager that has Europe watching

Tottenham are among a host of clubs interested in talented AS Trencin winger Sani Suleiman.

Thomas Frank is already working to improve his squad, and Tottenham have been busy in the January transfer window as a result.

Brennan Johnson moved to Crystal Palace for £35million, while Irish youngster Mason Melia joined Tottenham for a fee of £1.6m.

Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Sunday has left them in need of more talent than ever, and Suleiman is the latest youngster they have their eyes on.

Predominantly a left winger, the 19-year-old Nigerian has flourished for Slovakian side AS Trencin, who sit 10th in the 1. Liga.

Ben Jacobs has reported that Suleiman has attracted interest from Spurs, Anderlecht, Frankfurt, and Sevilla ahead of the 2 February deadline.

AS Trencin want £5.2m (€6m) Suleiman, who has registered the most progressive ball carries per 90 minutes of any teenager outside of Europe’s top five leagues this season (5.4).

The winger made a breakthrough for Nigerian side Akwa United, and after 11 appearances for their senior team, he moved to the Slovakian outfit in July 2024.

This campaign, he has been impressive on the left, and his most recent goal came in the 2-0 win over FC Kosice on 8 November.

Tottenham pride themselves on being able to buy stars before they emerge into top-class players, and they’ve handled the development of Mikey Moore and Luka Vuskovic excellently.

Suleiman could follow the footsteps of Mikey Moore and Luka Vuskovic

As Spurs oversee the progression of their young talents, they are also adapting their transfer strategy.

Tottenham have already made an £8m bid for Souza, a 19-year-old left-back who plays for Brazilian side Santos, while Melia is expected to be an exciting addition in attack.

As for Suleiman, he will aim to gain the same reputation that Vuskovic and Moore have built up should he make the move to N17.

Vuskovic is thriving on loan at Hamburg, and the centre-back has started 13 of their 15 games in the Bundesliga this season.

Moore had a tough start at Rangers, but his loan spell has taken off under manager Danny Rohl, and he’s scored three league goals for the Glaswegian outfit.

If Spurs were to sign Suleiman, he would undergo a similar journey of loan spells at different teams around Europe, and there’s no doubt that he can become a brilliant player.

With experience also needed more than ever, it could be a very busy four weeks in North London.
