Troy Deeney blasts Tottenham as shock Jack Grealish latest emerges
Tottenham have made their decision on signing Manchester City star Jack Grealish.
Thomas Frank‘s side are in the market for attacking reinforcements and had agreed to meet Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White’s release clause.
However, he has since signed a new contract, and Spurs have been forced to settle for alternative targets after drama with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.
The Citizens star was widely considered an ideal target for the Lilywhites due to his situation at the Etihad Stadium.

Tottenham stance on Grealish transfer leaves Deeney floored
Tottenham have been heavily linked with Grealish following the news that James Maddison will be ruled out for between six to seven months.
However, Alex Crook claimed that Spurs have distanced themselves from rumours linking them with the Man City playmaker.
Troy Deeney was astounded by Crook’s reveal, as he believes that the former England star would be perfect for Frank’s side.
Speaking on talkSPORT (8 August, 11:10 am), he said: “You are talking about someone, for whatever people want to talk about Jack, he has been at City, he is used to winning, he knows the level, he knows the standard.
“He is an upgrade on everything that they have got there.
“To me, the fact they are planning it down, it is daft.”
Is Grealish really what Tottenham need?
Deeney’s passionate defence of Grealish does not necessarily ring true, as he has not shown the levels that he talked about for a considerable period now.
The ex-Three Lions ace started just seven top-flight matches last season, contributing with just one goal and one assist.
Gibbs-White was supposed to be a potential replacement for Maddison in the starting line-up, but Grealish cannot hold a candle to either at the moment in terms of goal contributions.
Stats | Grealish | Gibbs-White | Maddison |
Matches | 20 | 34 | 31 |
Goals | 1 | 7 | 9 |
Assists | 1 | 8 | 7 |
Chances created per 90 | 3.02 | 1.63 | 2.03 |
Successful dribbles per 90 | 1.64 | 0.99 | 1.64 |
Shots per 90 | 1.89 | 1.95 | 1.93 |
Grealish is a great player when he is on form, and a change of scenery, such as a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, could have revived his career and got him back in the England squad for the upcoming World Cup.
However, Deeney is wrong; if Daniel Levy and Co. do not want to sign Grealish, it is far from daft, he is far too risky given his lack of appearances recently, and there is no guarantee that the move would succeed.
Spurs’ best option would be to try and sign somebody who has been starring regularly in a top division, not a player who cannot start for another elite side.
