Tottenham transfer: Chelsea eye deal for top Postecoglou target

Chelsea are monitoring Tottenham transfer target Patrick Dorgu ahead of the January transfer window, according to the Daily Express.

The English newspaper reported via its website (28 December) that Enzo Maresca admires his versatility to play in defence and midfield and will rival Spurs for his signature.

As per GiveMeSport (27 December), the 20-year-old tops Postecoglou’s transfer wishlist in North London after Spurs were urged to sign the full-back last summer, but a move failed to materialise.

Chelsea will rival Tottenham for Patrick Dorgu

Postecoglou will be kicking himself at Tottenham for not securing Dorgu in the summer as the race for his signature intensifies ahead of January.

Manchester United, Liverpool, AC Milan and Napoli are credited with an interest in the left-back alongside Chelsea, with all barring one playing European football this season.

Fabrizio Romano reported on 7 August that talks between Spurs and Lecce did not advance in the summer due to the Serie A outfit demanding between £25-29million for Dorgu.

However, Lecce will now be able to demand a higher fee due to the increased interest – Daniel Levy will have to reach deep into his pockets to land the left-back for Postecoglou.

Furthermore, Tottenham are now in a delicate position – former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara mooted a loan move for Chelsea full-back Ben Chilwell, who has been frozen out of the first team fold at Stamford Bridge.

With the injury crisis well-documented, Lecce could take advantage of the desperate situation in North London and charge an excessive fee to part ways with Dorgu.

If Chelsea beat Tottenham to the Danish international, Postecoglou must ensure that his relationship with his London rivals is not strained, as he might come knocking on the door for Chilwell.
