Tottenham to ‘cash in on Romero’ to sign £50m Premier League star
Tottenham Hotspur will be fully focused on a make-or-break European second leg on Thursday night before any transfer talk enters the mind of Ange Postecoglou or any other key figure.
Recruitment plans will be strategised as we speak behind the scenes, but there can be no talk of that internally at least until the threat of Eintracht Frankfurt is extinguished (17 April).
Spurs can make themselves a far more attractive proposition for summer transfer targets if they go all the way in the Europa League – it would after all make them the sixth English club to qualify for the Champions League in 2025-26.
Where there are incomings, there are outgoings, however – and some established names could well be on their way out of North London this summer. And many Spurs fans will probably breathe a sigh of relief.

Tottenham could move on Cristian Romero to sign in-demand defender
Tottenham Hotspur is a club many players around Europe and beyond would jump at the chance to represent.
The history, the facilities and the potential for the club to succeed – even despite the debatable way on-pitch matters are run – are of huge appeal to any player worth their salt.
However, this threatens to be a free-falling Spurs with no European football on the table, unless they can conjure up their first trophy since 2008.
With some players’ relationships with the fans at breaking point, a squad overhaul is anticipated this summer, and Romero has been one of the names touted to leave.
The World Cup-winning Argentine’s contract has two years left to run, which makes this year a prime opportunity to recoup a sizeable fee for his services.
In his place could come AFC Bournemouth sensation Dean Huijsen, who turned 20 this week and has been excelling for Andoni Iraola’s side since arriving from Juventus – even making his full debut for Spain.
According to The Athletic (17 April), Romero would be the prime candidate to be dispensed with in order to sign the £50million-rated talent.
“The Argentinian has made several high-profile errors this season, however, and has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid,” the article read as it proposed a potential new destination for Huijsen this summer.
“Cashing in on Romero to make a move for Huijsen might be their best option.”

Romero has taken scathing criticism from Spurs fans
Romero and the Tottenham Hotspur supporters appear at near-breaking point in their relationship at this stage.
Many Spurs fans have it in their minds that Romero’s head is elsewhere, and that a move is expected from all sides this summer.
Romero is certainly one of the most appealing assets for Spurs to earn from, and Daniel Levy will be eyeing up the most astute business deal to get him off the books if the Argentina star wishes to leave.
Tottenham Hotspur – squad market value | Value |
Dejan Kulusevski | £51.6m |
Cristian Romero | £47.3m |
Micky van de Ven | £47.3m |
James Maddison | £43m |
Brennan Johnson | £43m |
The 26-year-old has made a series of mistakes for both his club and his national team, intertwined with injuries in a forgettable season, but could certainly mellow the frustrated supporters with a dynamic defensive display in Frankfurt on Thursday night.
Romero is likely to start for the Lilywhites in Germany alongside Micky van de Ven, who is also the subject of transfer interest despite an injury-laden campaign.
