Tottenham talks to sign MLS rising star Peyton Miller hampered by FIFA red tape

Tottenham are reportedly in the hunt to sign New England Revolution left-back Peyton Miller.

Spurs are laying the foundations for what is bound to be a busy summer transfer window in North London as doubts swirl around the futures of manager Ange Postecoglou and star player Son Heung-min.

Miller, 17, is halfway through a breakthrough season in Major League Soccer with New England Revolution, capping his fine form with a goal and an assist in their 3-0 win away at Montreal on Saturday, 1 June.

Tottenham are now trying to sign the Connecticut-born sensation. However, FIFA rules are causing an issue for the Premier League club’s recruitment team.

Spurs will have to splash the cash to sign Miller

Blazing Musket senior editor Seth Macomber reported via his personal X account on Tuesday (3 June) that Tottenham have held talks with New England Revolution in a bid to buy Miller.

Fox Sports had earlier reported that “at least one Premier League club” wants to sign the teenage full-back this summer.

However, due to FIFA rules, they would have to loan him back to New England until he turns 18 in November 2025.

CBS Sports and former The Athletic journalist Tom Bogert reported in May that Miller is “a huge talent and one of the biggest prospects in MLS right now”.

Bogert added that any club that wants to sign the MLS rising star would also have to pay a “big fee” to acquire him from New England, who are currently sat in 10th place in the Eastern Conference of the USA’s premium football competition.

Miller can be Tottenham’s next commercial hit

As mentioned, Son could be on his way out of Tottenham this summer with a move to Saudi Arabia on the cards.

While the ex-Bayer Leverkusen forward has been a wonderful player for Spurs over the years, there’s also been the added benefit of him causing an influx of support from South Korea.

Son’s time at Tottenham has been a commercial hit as well as a footballing one.

Miller’s reputation in the USA right now is that of a real wonderkid who’s bound to break into Mauricio Pochettino’s national team at some point in the future.

While Fox Sports says it’s unlikely to be at next year’s World Cup – which the States, Canada and Mexico host – it won’t be a shock to see the current Under-20s international make that step up soon.
