Tottenham ‘seriously stepping up efforts’ to beat Man United as contact made over last-minute deal

Tottenham are ready to push ahead of Manchester United to seal a last-minute transfer on deadline day.

The Premier League duo look set to go head-to-head to add the finishing touches to their squad ahead of Monday night’s 7pm BST deadline.

Thomas Frank and Tottenham will be hoping for a late flurry of transfer activity, as they still require reinforcements in certain areas of the squad.

The Lilywhites have already completed seven new signings so far this summer, but any late additions could provide the all-important boost for the coming months.

Tottenham ahead of Man United in Benjamin Pavard race

Tottenham continue to be without Radu Dragusin for the foreseeable future, as he progresses his recovery from a long-term injury sustained back in January.

That could see them dip into the market for another centre-back option on deadline day, and they now appear to have a target firmly within their sights.

Spurs are “seriously stepping up their efforts” to sign Benjamin Pavard from Inter Milan, according to reports from CaughtOffside.

The Frenchman is also on the radar of Manchester United, Barcelona and Marseille, but the Lilywhites’ interest is thought to be at the most advanced stage.

Frank’s side are believed to have already made contact with Inter over a potential deal, with Pavard himself potentially open to a Premier League switch.

Benjamin Pavard would be a great signing for Spurs

Luka Vuskovic has left Spurs to join Hamburg on loan for the season, which is another event that has left the door open for an incoming at the heart of the backline in N17.

Pavard is now 29 and vastly experienced, having spent several campaigns in each of Ligue 1, the Bundesliga and Serie A.

He was also part of the France team that won the 2018 World Cup, and tasted Champions League glory during his time with Bayern Munich.

The defender is certainly the kind of calibre of player that Spurs need to be targeting to help take themselves to the next level, and they should be doing everything they can to ensure they remain ahead of the competition and strike a deal.

The centre-back area may not necessarily be a major priority for them on deadline day, but if a player like Pavard is available, then they’d be silly not to try and secure his signature.
