Tottenham eye ‘blockbuster’ transfer for striker Newcastle want to replace Isak

Tottenham are considering a move for a striker who Premier League rivals Newcastle United have already identified as a potential Alexander Isak replacement.

Newcastle star Isak has established himself as one of the best strikers in the English top-flight and has notched 19 goals in 24 Premier League appearances, which has put Eddie Howe’s men firmly in the hunt for a Champions League spot.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are enduring a somewhat miserable Premier League campaign, as they sit 13th in the table with just 11 games remaining.

Spurs supporters have shown their dissent towards club owner Daniel Levy this season, but they will be hoping to see their side continue progressing in the Europa League.

Ange Postecoglou’s men face a two-legged round-of-16 tie with Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar, either side of a Premier League encounter with Bournemouth, with the first leg set to take place in the Netherlands on Thursday 6th March.

Tottenham set their sights on Porto ace

Amid their struggles this season, Spurs fans will want to see drastic improvement ahead of next term, which could involve a busy transfer window this summer.

Tottenham’s efforts this campaign have been heavily hindered by injuries to key men such as former Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke, who has not featured since his side’s 2-1 defeat to North London derby rivals Arsenal back in January.

Consequently, Spurs will be looking to acquire new players ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season, while according to Caught Offside, (28 February) they have set their sights on Porto striker Samu Aghehowa.

However, Postecoglou and co are not alone in their interest in the Porto man, as he is also being eyed by Newcastle, who may need to purchase an Isak replacement if the Sweden international leaves St James’ Park this summer.

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are also reportedly on the hunt for Aghehowa, who has scored 13 goals in 19 Liga Portugal outings this term.

Spurs may face an uphill battle to sign Aghehowa

Porto currently sit third in the Portuguese top-flight, and are just six points adrift of second-place Benfica, so they still have a good chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

But Tottenham’s only current route to Champions League qualification is by winning the Europa League.

Failure to do so could be enough to put Aghehowa off a move to North London, especially amid interest from the likes of Bayern, who are set to win the Bundesliga title, and Newcastle who could land a Premier League top-four spot.
