Tottenham ready Nico Paz approach as Spurs board makes stunning decision
Tottenham could be about to take a big step forward in their pursuit of Nico Paz.
The 20-year-old notched an impressive six goals and eight assists from just 35 games for Como in Serie A last season, which has prompted speculation over where his long-term future will lie.
Spurs have outlined Paz as a potential target this summer, as they try to secure an addition to cover for the injury absence of a key player in James Maddison.
Thomas Frank’s side may have just lost out on Eberechi Eze, but they could now be ready to make a huge move towards securing Paz’s signature.

Tottenham considering Nico Paz approach after talks take place
Tottenham’s pursuit of Paz is made all the more complicated by the fact that Real Madrid hold a buy-back clause on the attacking midfielder.
The Spanish giants can re-sign their former academy starlet for a fee of just £7.8million next summer, and despite this clause potentially providing a huge stumbling block to any potential deal, the Lilywhites have not been deterred at all.
Spurs are considering making a concrete approach for the Argentine, and talks have already taken place through intermediaries, according to the print edition of The Sunday Mirror (24 August, pg. 69).
- Paz notched 14 goal contributions from 35 league appearances in 2024/25
- He won his first senior cap for Argentina in a World Cup qualifier against Bolivia last October
- No Serie A midfielder completed more successful dribbles last season
Paz is understood to be a “popular pick” among the board members in N17, who remain adamant that Spurs are yet to make a bid, despite previous suggestions from Italy.
Tottenham’s hierarchy want to “make amends” after their Eze failure, but this is a deal that is unlikely to come without a significant financial commitment from the North Londoners.
Real Madrid also hold a 50 per cent sell-on clause over the youngster, which could see Como hold out for a fee of around £60m at this late stage of the summer.
Nico Paz would be a great investment for Spurs
The single fact that Tottenham’s chase of Paz could be heavily impacted by Real Madrid is all the evidence necessary to suggest that he would be a strong signing.
He dazzled during his debut campaign in Italy last time out and showed the first real signs of reaching the potential that was so commonly expected of him during his time in the Spanish capital.
Stats | Total | Rank compared to Serie A midfielders |

Paz was one of Serie A’s standout midfielders throughout the campaign, and it is no surprise to see him heavily linked with a Premier League move.
At the age of 20, the midfielder has a huge future ahead of him and would undoubtedly be more of a long-term investment for Daniel Levy and Co., rather than a short-term replacement for Maddison.
A move for Paz could provide the perfect way to bounce back from the disappointment of missing out on Eze, and at the same time would also see Spurs tie down a player who has the potential to become one of the world’s best.
