Tottenham ready game-changing transfer after Maddison blow as sources speak out
Tottenham Hotspur have had a dramatic pre-season to say the least so far under Thomas Frank.
Firstly, club legend Son Heung-min recently announced his Spurs exit and made what appears to be his final appearance for the Lilywhites in their friendly against Newcastle on Sunday (3 August).
Then, James Maddison was forced off through injury in the same game, with fears that the midfielder could be sidelined for a long time.
Naturally, this has left Frank’s squad short on numbers, and that needs to be urgently addressed before his debut Premier League campaign in North London kicks off, with potential solutions already being identified.

Spurs in market for Maddison and Son replacement
The arrival of Morgan Gibbs-White would have fit the bill in terms of being a signing to significantly elevate the Spurs squad, but the Lilywhites’ pursuit of the Nottingham Forest star looks to have hit a dead end.
Now, according to a report from FlashScore (3 August), Tottenham are preparing to accelerate their transfer plans with the recent news regarding both Son and Maddison.
Daniel Levy and Co. are said to be in a position where they do not want to engage in any potential bidding wars for their transfer targets in order to get good value in the market.
This is easier said than done, however, with selling clubs aware of their need to secure new arrivals.
Jack Grealish and Alejandro Garnacho are two of the names linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with a player with “game-changing” ability in wide areas a priority and likely to be brought in, per their sources.
Other names Spurs have reportedly shown interest in:
- Enzo Millot (Stuttgart)
- Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United)
- Bilal El-Khannouss (Leicester City)
- Xavi Simons (RB Leipzig)
- Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace)
- Harvey Elliott (Liverpool)

Maddison’s days at Spurs might be numbered
Despite being a fantastic player when fully fit, Maddison’s future in N17 may become uncertain.
The 28-year-old needed to make a good impression this pre-season for Frank after returning from injury, but his latest setback may have just cost him his Tottenham career.
If Spurs continue to significantly add more quality attacking players to Frank’s squad, Maddison could find himself watching from the sidelines, even when the Englishman is back from injury – whenever that may be.
