Tottenham ‘ramifications possible’ as £23.8m Lucumi summer transfer eyed

Tottenham are understood to be interested in signing Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi this summer.

The left-sided centre back was hugely impressive for Bologna last season, as they ended a 51-year trophy drought by defeating AC Milan in the final of the Coppa Italia.

Now, Lucumi looks set to depart the club, with Tottenham lining him up to become one of the first new signings of Thomas Frank’s reign.

Tottenham have already turned the loan deals for Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso into permanent acquisitions, but have seemingly held off on bringing in any new additions until their managerial situation has been settled.

Tottenham join list of Premier League clubs in race for Lucumi

Spurs look set to add to their defensive ranks imminently with a £5million deal agreed for Japanese sensation Kota Takai, and now it seems as though Lucumi could be the latest man to join Frank’s restructuring of the backline.

The North London outfit are one of a host of Premier League sides to have joined Aston Villa and Bournemouth in the race to sign Lucumi, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (24 June).

Brentford, Brighton and Wolves currently make up the remainder of the contingent, but interest is also potentially anticipated from the Manchester clubs.

The Colombian defender’s contract is due to expire next summer, and Bologna are thought to be weighing up whether to sell him now or hope that he will sign a renewed deal in the near future.

If the Italians opt to sell their key man, then they are thought to be willing to sanction his exit for a fee in the region of £23.8m.

Dragusin could make way for Lucumi

Radu Dragusin’s Tottenham future has been up in the air recently, and if Lucumi made the switch from Serie A, then it would surely see the Romanian in line for an exit this summer.

The 23-year-old has been largely inconsistent during his time in N17, and with his long-term injury still expected to have him sidelined until the upcoming campaign is well underway, it could be hard for him to establish himself in Frank’s plans.

Dragusin is understood to have already met with news boss Frank, but if Spurs were to sign off on a deal to bring in Lucumi, then it would push him even further down the pecking order.

Daniel Levy seems intent on backing Frank after convincing him to make the move across London, but for every new addition, there will be a member of the current squad who is left to suffer the ramifications.
