Tottenham new signing: Ange Postecoglou wants Aston Villa transfer hijack

Tottenham may look to hijack a deal for Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund in the winter transfer window, according to Caught Offside.

The news outlet reports (8 January) that Ange Postecoglou wants the North London outfit to explore opportunities to sign an attacker in January, with Aston Villa pushing ahead over a deal.

Spurs are keen on the Dutch winger, but the Villans are ahead of them in the race for his signature.

The Lilywhites are in internal discussions about whether to sign Malen, as Villa and BVB are yet to agree on a fee for the forward.

Tottenham need to be quick to hijack Aston Villa transfer

The Lions look to be in pole position to acquire the services of the 25-year-old, which means that the North London outfit need to be quick in their decision-making.

Unai Emery’s team need reinforcements up top as well, and it won’t be easy for Tottenham to prise the Dutch winger away from them.

The North London outfit have struggled for most of the season under Postecoglou, who has dealt with multiple injuries in his squad.

Son Heung-min missed a big chunk of the season early on, forcing the Australian manager to rely on Timo Werner, who has been underwhelming.

Brennan Johnson has also been inconsistent with his displays, making the addition of competition for forward places necessary.

Malen has played most of his football on the right wing in the current campaign, but the 25-year-old is also capable of playing on the left.

The Dutch forward can also play as a number nine, making his versatility a potential asset to any club that acquires him.

Postecoglou evidently needs more attacking options with Dominic Solanke and Richarlison misfiring, but it remains to be seen whether Daniel Levy can pull off a coup with Malen.
