Tottenham make approach to sign ‘fantastic’ Chelsea star in £50m transfer reveal

Tottenham are desperate to reinforce their attacking options this summer as they prepare for their Champions League return.

Spurs’ Europa League victory ensured that their 2024/25 campaign was saved and granted the North London club a place in Europe’s most prestigious competition.

While Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain, this has not stopped them from making moves in the transfer market.

The London club are hunting for an attacker, and Tottenham have recently been linked to Leroy Sane. However, Spurs are exploring other options.

Tottenham have ‘enquired’ about Christopher Nkunku as the Chelsea star is set to leave

Christopher Nkunku has struggled in the Premier League since his initial move to Chelsea.

The French attacking midfielder joined from RB Leipzig in 2023 but has failed to hit the same heights in England.

As a result, according to talkSPORT (29 May), Nkunku will now leave Chelsea this summer.

The report states that the 27-year-old would welcome a move back to Germany, but is open to staying in the Premier League.

Tottenham have already “enquired” about a move for the attacking midfielder but Bayern Munich have also made an initial approach, which Nkunku is reportedly “keen” on.

However, the German outfit is put off by Chelsea’s price tag, with the London club demanding north of £50 million for the services of the Frenchman.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca previously heaped praise on Nkunku, labelling him as “fantastic” after he admitted it was difficult to find a place for him in the starting XI.

He said back in November 2024: “We know that Christo’s best position is between the line as a 10.

“Cole [Palmer] is playing there. We will not play many games with Cole and Christo, or Cole and Joao [Felix].

“They are all fantastic players and will play, but not every game.

“The same issue we mention many times with Joao.

“If you play with Cole, Joao, Christo, Noni – who is defending?

“Their skills is not defending, it is to attack. We love them, we want them but we need balance.”

Nkunku would be a great Tottenham signing, but only for the right price

Nkunku has shown many times that he has plenty of ability in Europe, but has struggled to match this in the Premier League.

Of his 14 goals in all competitions this season, five came in the Europa Conference League, while only three were scored in the English top-flight.

If Tottenham can help Nkunku find some consistency, he would be a fantastic asset.

However, the signing would be a massive risk, and Spurs should not be paying over £50 million for the attacker.

If the asking price can be negotiated down, he would be a great signing for Tottenham, but only if the price is right.
