Tottenham line up last-gasp deal for new forward after Xavi Simons announcement
Tottenham finalised the signing of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig on Friday.
Thomas Frank wanted Simons at Spurs after failed pursuits of Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White and he ended up getting his man.
The Netherlands international was also linked with a move to Chelsea, but they failed to secure his services.
Simons will also be one of Tottenham’s most expensive signings ever, having moved to North London for a £51.8million fee.

Tottenham eye new left-winger
It has been an eventful summer at the Lilywhites with Ange Postecoglou leaving to be replaced by Frank.
Frank wanted a reunion with Bryan Mbeumo at Tottenham, but the Cameroon international ended up joining Manchester United.
However, Spurs succeeded in signing Mohammed Kudus from West Ham and also signed Mathys Tel permanently from Bayern Munich and Simons most recently.
Player | Year | Signed from | Fee | Appearances |
Dominic Solanke | 2024 | Bournemouth | £65m | 48 |
Tanguy Ndombele | 2019 | Lyon | £63m | 91 |
Richarlison | 2022 | Everton | £60m | 93 |
Mohammed Kudus | 2025 | West Ham | £55m | 3 |
Xavi Simons | 2025 | RB Leipzig | £51.8m | 0 |
Brennan Johnson | 2023 | Nottingham Forest | £47.5m | 87 |
While these arrivals were certainly positive, losing James Maddison to a season-long injury and Son Heung-min leaving permanently have left a void in attack, with Dejan Kulusevski also out injured.
According to Sky Sports on 29 August, the Lilywhites are not understood to be done with their transfer activity this summer.
After signing Simons, they are looking to bring in a left-winger ahead of the 7pm deadline on Monday, 1 September.

Spurs need to move quickly to sign new winger
Tottenham must urgently sign a left winger before the transfer window closes, as their pursuit of Manchester City’s Savinho has collapsed, with City rejecting bids and confirming the 21-year-old Brazilian will stay despite his interest in the move.
Savinho was ideal to replace Son, now at LAFC, but Pep Guardiola’s stance forces Spurs to target alternatives.
Relying on options like Wilson Odobert and Tel alongside newcomers Kudus and Brennan Johnson is what Frank will be doing currently, but he does need to be backed by the hierarchy.
The board, led by Johan Lange, is running out of time to secure a Premier League-ready talent to avoid last season’s 17th-place repeat, bolster their Champions League hopes and prevent fan frustration after missing Eze to Arsenal.
Swift action is critical to restore squad balance and top-four ambition.
