Tottenham insider issues update on transfer ban after Gibbs-White controversy

Tottenham have encountered a huge bump in their quest to sign Morgan Gibbs-White this summer.

Daniel Levy believed he had finally gotten things right after agreeing deals for Mohammed Kudus and Gibbs-White.

But unlike Kudus, who has officially signed for Tottenham, Nottingham Forest have caused all proceedings for Gibbs-White to be placed on hold.

With their forthcoming season hanging in the balance, Tottenham fans will be anxiously checking the latest update on the situation.

Tottenham won’t receive transfer ban over Gibbs-White controversy

Communication between Nottingham Forest and Tottenham has ceased, with Forest reportedly of the belief that Spurs made an illegal approach for Gibbs-White.

This comes after the North London club triggered a £60million release clause in the midfielder’s contract. The Midlands club believes there has been a breach of confidentiality around the clause, given that Spurs’ bid was sent for that exact amount.

While it is unclear if Forest will be able to block the transfer, all proceedings are set to be on standby as the Reds prepare a complaint to the Premier League.

As expected, there has been speculation surrounding the outcome of the case, with a multi-window transfer ban amongst those suggested.

However, Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe, in response to a potential ban, informed his followers via X on Friday (11 July) that the claim is unsubstantiated. He said, “Absolutely zero chance that happens.”

Tottenham must not let Gibbs-White situation impact their window

There is little way of knowing how long the Gibbs-White situation will take to be resolved – or if it even will be.

As a result, Tottenham should look to continue their work in the transfer window to avoid missing out on key transfers. The last thing Thomas Frank will need going into a competitive season is an incomplete squad.

In the meantime, outgoings are a key area that still needs to be addressed. There have been several reports that Son Heung-min and Yves Bissouma could both leave Spurs this summer.

With both their departures, the North London club will be able to bring in the necessary profiles to replace them. Xavi Simons has been linked to Hotspur Way, while Adam Wharton could act as a replacement for Bissouma.

But Tottenham will need to get these signings done, despite the outcome of Gibbs-White.
