Tottenham fight Aston Villa for new transfer, medical ready
Tottenham are set to face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Aston Villa as they look to kick off their summer transfer window.
Tottenham have already confirmed four player exits and are intent on significantly bolstering their squad ahead of next season.
With players like Cristian Romero looking to join the outgoings, the Lilywhites have their work cut out to ensure they can significantly improve on their awful league campaign.
Questions remain over the future of Ange Postecoglou, but that will not hinder their search for players to bring to North London.
They will have to navigate what will undoubtedly be a competitive market, with Aston Villa joining the race for their latest target.

Tottenham are tracking Viktoria Plzen’s Pavel Sulc
Postecoglou called on the hierarchy to bring in more experience to help guide the young squad, with the club stepping up their pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane.
However, it will not completely stop Spurs from targeting hidden gems from across Europe, similar to Lucas Bergvall.
As reported by the Daily Mail (pg 107, 31 May), Tottenham have set their sights on Viktoria Plzen midfielder Sulc.
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Minutes Played |
Chance Liga | 30 | 11 | 8 | 2,595′ |
Europa League | 12 | 4 | 3 | 1,080′ |
Europa League Qualifying | 4 | – | 2 | 360′ |
The 24-year-old has impressed both domestically and on the continent as Plzen reached the round of 16 in the UEFA Europa League.
He predominantly plays as an attacking midfielder and is known for his goal-scoring and creative abilities, which have also seen him capped 12 times by Czechia.
Bayer Leverkusen have also shown an interest, but Tottenham hope they are in pole position, with Aston Villa, who have also been credited with an interest, focusing firmly on completing the signing of Feyenoord forward Zepiqueno Redmond, with a medical booked in the West Midlands.

Tottenham are desperate for an attacking midfielder
The list of needs at Tottenham are exhaustive, with plenty of key areas to fill, but very few are more pressing than attacking midfield.
Postecoglou has relied heavily on James Maddison, who has shown his qualities at times this season but has been inconsistent in both performances and availability.
Dejan Kulusevski rediscovered himself in the attacking midfield role in the early stages of the season before he was run into the ground.
It left Tottenham woefully short of creative options going into their most important game in years, highlighting their desperate need to address this area of the pitch with a player like Sulc.
