Tottenham emerge shock contenders for Mason Mount as betting odds emerge

Tottenham are set for a busy transfer window under Thomas Frank and Manchester United attacking midfielder Mason Mount appears to be linked.

The England international has battled injury issues since his move to Old Trafford and has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular.

This past season, he made just 16 Premier League appearances, scoring one goal and providing no assists.

West Ham and Aston Villa frontrunners as Spurs among third favourites to sign Mount

The 26-year-old’s contract at the Manchester outfit does not run out until the summer of 2028.

Even then, United have the option to extend it by another year, so he is tied down to them for another four years.

However, that’s not stopped clubs from being linked with a move for the Champions League winner with Chelsea.

Bet Victor has put West Ham and Aston Villa as favourites to sign him, giving them odds of 6/1.

Spurs are given an 8/1 chance to secure the services of Mount, along with Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.

Tottenham must not sign Mount this summer

Tottenham should steer clear of signing Mount this summer, even at a reduced price, due to performance-related concerns.

His tenure at Manchester United since his £55million move from Chelsea in 2023 has been underwhelming, plagued by injuries and inconsistent form, with only 46 appearances, four goals, and one assist.

The Englishman’s high salary demands would strain Tottenham’s wage structure, potentially disrupting squad harmony.

Thomas Frank’s system demands dynamic midfielders, but Mount’s recent lack of creativity and defensive robustness raises doubts about his fit.

Tottenham’s midfield already features James Maddison, who occupies a similar creative role, and investing in younger, more versatile talents aligns better with their long-term vision.

A cut-price deal might seem tempting, but Mount’s injury history and declining impact suggest he’s a risky acquisition that could hinder Tottenham’s ambitions for a top-four finish and sustained European success.
