Tottenham director jets out to Munich to invest in Mathys Tel signing – Romano
Tottenham had a director in attendance as Bayern Munich beat Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League as they aim to complete the signing of Mathys Tel, Fabrizio Romano has claimed.
The Italian journalist reported via X (30 January) that the race for the 19-year-old forward is beginning to heat up as Spurs battle several Premier League clubs for his signature.
In a bid to stave off competition from elsewhere, Spurs had a representative at the Allianz Stadium to “invest” in a permanent transfer.
Romano added that Chelsea are still in the hunt to secure a permanent deal, while Manchester United have asked Bayern for a loan.
Tottenham in hunt for Mathys Tel transfer
It was confirmed by Bayern sporting director Max Eberl following Bayern’s 3-1 win over Slovan that Tel has asked to leave the Bundesliga giants.
Florian Plettenberg claimed that Spurs are among four Premier League clubs alongside United, Chelsea, and Arsenal to have gathered all information on the deal and to have begun talks with Tel’s agent.
Spurs are in dire need of reinforcement amid a crippling injury crisis at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the face on to beat to the 3 February 3 deadline.
Tel would represent a hugely valuable option to beleaguered boss Ange Postecoglou given he can play either on the left flank or up front.
But it remains to be seen if they will succeed in their quest to sign the France Under-21 international, who is a man in demand in the closing days of the window.
