Tottenham ‘already in talks with Mourinho’, want deal in place by summer

Tottenham have reached out to former manager Jose Mourinho as they already begin preparations for the 2025-26 campaign.

Spurs are currently trying to salvage their season via the Europa League, but the first leg of their quarter-final proved it isn’t going to be a simple task to achieve.

Ange Postecoglou’s men got off to a nightmare start as Hugo Ekitike scored in the sixth minute of the game for Eintracht Frankfurt in what seemed like it was going to be a long night for the Premier League side.

However, Pedro Porro scored an equaliser in the 26th minute as the two teams went to draw 1-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It was a frustrating result for Spurs given this was their home advantage, with Postecoglou’s side unable to break down their opponents despite dominating possession.

Tottenham are in talks to make a new signing

Spurs have had a tough season across all competitions, and it has signalled the need to bring in some more quality for next season to strengthen their squad.

According to Takvim (9 April) that is exactly what Daniel Levy is attempting to make happen as they’re in talks with Fenerbahce to sign Yusuf Akcicek.

Akcicek is currently working under former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho, and Tottenham have made contact with him to gain more information about the teenager ahead of the summer transfer window.

The defender has gained the interest of several teams across Europe due to his performances this season for the Turkish giants, which could give Spurs some competition in their attempts to lure him to London.

Mourinho reportedly gave a glowing report of the 19-year-old, with Spurs having scouted him multiple times earlier on this season.

Akcicek is someone who fits the mould of what Levy wants at his club in terms of being a young talent with high potential who can go on to develop Spurs on the pitch, while potentially having huge resale value down the line.

Tottenham need defensive reinforcement

Bringing in quality at the back will be important for Postecoglou during the summer transfer window due to the many issues he’s had to deal with in that area of the team.

Spurs have had numerous injury problems with defensive players this season, which has prohibited Postecoglou from putting together a settled back four who could go on and develop as a unit.

On top of that, Cristian Romero is being linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer, which would leave Tottenham ever weaker at the back.
