Tottenham agree blockbuster Xavi Simons transfer as medical details emerge ahead of move
Daniel Levy is set to redeem himself in the eyes of Tottenham fans as he closes in on Xavi Simons.
Levy has been public enemy number one after a series of failed transfers. First, Johnny Cardoso opted to sign for Atletico Madrid despite a discounted fee included in Giovani Lo Celso’s transfer to Real Betis.
Then, after two weeks of speculation, Morgan Gibbs-White extended his contract with Nottingham Forest. Eberechi Eze was the real kicker who signed for Arsenal despite agreeing terms with Spurs.
But the Tottenham chairman is now on track for a comeback, and Simons grows closer to Hotspur Way.

RB Leipzig accept £51.8m bid for Xavi Simons
Tottenham were interested in Simons earlier in the window, but moved on to other targets.
Chelsea soon set their sights on the midfielder, but Spurs re-entered the race for Simons after Eze chose Arsenal. It seems Levy does not want a repeat of the Eze saga as the Lilywhites go all in for the Dutchman.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano on Friday, 29 August, Tottenham have agreed a £51.8million fee with RB Leipzig for Simons.
The Lilywhites want the deal completed within the next hours with a medical to follow.
With Chelsea still lurking in the background, it will be a race against the clock to get Simons transfer sealed and signed.
What are the next steps for Tottenham?
Tottenham plans to add at least one other attacker once the Simons deal is closed.
While the former PSG player is comfortable on the left wing, his best position is in the attacking midfield. As a result, Spurs will likely look to sign a winger once Simons arrives at Hotspur Way.
While several options have been tabled in recent days, Maghnes Akliouche seems to be the most viable option.
- Akliouche climbed through Monaco’s academy before making his debut against Lyon on 16 October 2021
- 27 August 2017: Akilouche received his first senior call-up by Didier Deschamps
Monaco are keen to keep Akliouche for at least another season. However, it is believed that a large enough fee could sway the French side.
With Savinho set to remain at Manchester City, the Lilywhites can use the money set aside for him on the Frenchman. As such, this is one transfer which could accelerate in the coming hours.
