This is what Tottenham must do before transfer deadline day after Dominic Solanke update

Tottenham must add a fifth new major signing to their summer business before Monday’s transfer deadline day.

Spurs completed the signing of Xavi Simons on Friday, after beating London rivals Chelsea to the 22-year-old’s signature.

Thomas Frank had been keen to add a creative midfielder to his squad after James Maddison underwent surgery on an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament, and he has finally got his wish.

Spurs have also signed Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich and Mohammed Kudus from West Ham this summer, as they look to bolster the Dane’s options.

The Portugal international starred as Spurs beat Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium, with his defensive contribution proving key in midfield.

Dominic Solanke missing vs Bournemouth

Dominic Solanke enjoyed an up-and-down first season at Spurs following his £65million move from Bournemouth last summer.

The striker scored 16 goals in all competitions but experienced several bouts of injury throughout the season.

The England international would have hoped this season would provide a chance to leave his injury issues behind him and start anew under Frank, but it appears that will not be the case.

Solanke was missing from the squad the Dane selected to play against Bournemouth on Saturday, with Alasdair Gold reporting that the forward missed out with an ankle issue.

Spurs need a striker before Monday’s deadline

Whilst Solanke’s injury issue does not appear to be major, the 27-year-old is rapidly earning a reputation for his repeated absences.

Richarlison is Frank’s other natural option up front, and the Brazilian has started the season in terrific form – scoring two goals and grabbing an assist in just three appearances.

But fans will not be quick to forget that the 28-year-old has suffered from significant injury issues of his own, appearing in just 15 Premier League fixtures last season.

To rely on either striker would be to take a significant risk this season. Frank could easily find himself in a situation in which he needs to rely on the unproven Mathys Tel through the middle.

Luckily for Spurs, however, the transfer window is still open, and could provide an opportunity to find an alternative option to provide cover.

But with just hours remaining until that chance is gone, decision-makers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium must act quickly and purposefully.
