The five names Tottenham have shortlisted to replace James Maddison ahead of deadline day
Daniel Levy is set to accelerate his search for James Maddison’s replacement in the final days of the summer window.
The Tottenham chairman has seen more losses than wins in August. Joao Palhinha signed from Bayern Munich on loan and is already proving to be a valuable squad member.
But with Maddison, who sustained an ACL injury against Newcastle United during a pre-season friendly, Tottenham need an alternative.
Levy thought he’d found that in Eberechi Eze. But Eze’s transfer to Spurs was hijacked by Arsenal during its final stages.
It has been a rollercoaster of a summer full of more heartbreak than celebrations. However, it now seems that Levy is determined to end things on a high note.

Tottenham want two attackers before deadline day
With Maddison sidelined, Tottenham are set to ramp up their efforts to sign an attacker before the end of the window.
This comes as the North London club are still in need of replacements for Son Heung-min, who left for LAFC after almost a decade in North London.
- Maddison will be out for at least six months
- The Englishman has missed 24 games since arriving at Spurs and could miss 39 more this season
As reported by The Independent on Wednesday, 27 August, Tottenham are interested in signing two attackers from a shortlist of five names.
Signing Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa remains the ideal transfer. However, the difficulty in doing that deal means that the Spurs hierarchy are looking at alternative options.
These include West Ham United’s Lucas Paqueta, RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman and Monaco’s Maghnes Akilouche.
No matter who ends up at Hotspur Way, Tottenham fans should buckle their seatbelts as they’re in for a dramatic end to the summer window.

Why Tottenham should focus on Maghnes Akilouche and Lucas Paqueta
Tottenham should look to sign Akilouche and Paqueta if two attackers must arrive at Hotspur Way.
Simons would have been ideal, but it seems he has his heart set on Chelsea. As such, Spurs cannot afford to suffer another rejection this close to deadline day.
It is a similar story with Rogers. With Villa unlikely to sell this late into the window, Spurs should have more success with Paqueta. Not to mention that signing Mohammed Kudus could help facilitate Paqueta’s transfer.
Lookman is desperate for a new challenge, but Akilouche is younger and could serve the Lilywhites for years to come. His wages will be cheaper too.
Therefore, Tottenham should focus on signing these two players before 1 September.
