Swansea in late pursuit of Tottenham forward after Europa League exploits

Swansea City are eyeing a late deal to sign Tottenham youngster Damola Ajayi, according to Tom Barclay.

The Sun journalist reported via his personal X account [3 February] that the Swans, amongst a number of League One clubs, are interested in a last-gasp deal for the 19-year-old winger.

It is unclear whether Spurs will sanction a loan deal for the academy star before the deadline passes at 11pm but his recent exploits in the Europa League have seen him gather a lot of interest.

Tottenham gem to leave on loan to Swansea City?

Following his incredible goal against Elfsborg on Thursday 30 January, it is clear that all the 19-year-old needs to become the next big star at Hotspur Way is valuable minutes on the pitch.

However, that is unlikely to happen under Ange Postecoglou just because of the sheer number of attacking talents currently at the manager’s disposal.

A Championship move would be a step in the right direction for Ajayi, who has now been awarded his Spurs debut after numerous brilliant performances at youth level.

While Mikey Moore continues to be given minutes in the senior team, others like Jamie Donley and Will Lankshear have left on loan to seek other opportunities, which will be key to their development.

Ajayi is very much in the same boat, given he has no other experience outside North London, and if he is to make it as a Spurs player, he needs to prove himself at an adequate level.

Swansea, who have entered into a relegation battle in the Championship, just seven points above the dropzone, it would be an incredible experience for the 19-year-old winger.

It is certainly a move for supporters to keep an eye on during the final hours of the winter window, but it does not seem like there will be too many more exits before 11pm.
