Rodrigo Bentancur in Atletico Madrid twist as Tottenham investigations revealed
Rodrigo Bentancur is facing an uncertain future at Tottenham ahead of the summer transfer window.
Although injuries have proven to be a disruptor, Bentancur has been a regular for Tottenham since joining them from Juventus in January 2022, making 101 appearances across all competitions under Antonio Conte and Ange Postecoglou.
However, the Uruguay international is at a crossroads in his Spurs career as his contract expires at the end of next season, meaning this summer is perhaps the last opportunity for the club to demand a significant transfer fee for him.

Atletico Madrid sound out Bentancur
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid have identified Bentancur as a target to strengthen their midfield this summer, according to Uriel Lugt.
The South American journalist reported via his X account on Monday (24 March) that the La Liga giants have sounded out the 27-year-old, investigating his situation at Tottenham.

While they have not opened negotiations over a transfer deal yet, that could change in the coming months as Spurs prepare for the summer transfer window.
Considering Bentancur’s contract situation, the North London giants must make a decision regarding his future soon.

Tottenham could cash in on Bentancur
This comes amidst news that Tottenham have opened talks with Bentancur over putting pen to paper on a new contract.
Sami Mokbel reported in February that the negotiations are still in their early stages, with further meetings planned over weeks to discuss the terms.
Bryan King speculated the possibility of Spurs making Bentancur one of their highest-paid players by handing him a contract worth £150,000-a-week.
However, it is unclear if those talks have progressed in the right direction, meaning the midfielder’s future is still up in the air.
Tottenham are facing the prospect of making major additions to their squad in the summer transfer window as they are destined for a poor finish in the Premier League.
Postecoglou’s side are placed 14th in the table with nine games left to play, meaning qualification for a European competition is unlikely unless they win the UEFA Europa League.
Losing Bentancur on top of that could make Daniel Levy’s life that much more difficult.
