Richarlison exit bombshell emerges at Tottenham – here’s who could now sign him
Richarlison’s long-term Tottenham future has been called into major question this winter.
As pressure continues to build on Thomas Frank, Richarlison has also been coming in for criticism over his performances in recent weeks.
The 28-year-old striker does have seven goals in 21 Premier League appearances this season, but only has one goal from his last seven games in all competitions.
His relationship with the Tottenham hierarchy could also be straining, as he sent a clapping hands emoji in response to Cristian Romero seemingly calling out the Spurs board in his cryptic social media post.
Major Richarlison transfer update drops
Orlando City have been linked with Richarlison, whose contract expires at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer of 2027.
However, in a fresh update from ESPN Brazil‘s Bruno Andrade on Friday, it’s now been reported that Richarlison would like to leave Spurs after the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup this summer.
Clubs in Turkey and Saudia Arabia are understood to be interested in him, but Andrade claims that should Brazilian giants Flamengo decide to hold off on signing a striker until July, then one of their targets this summer will be Richarlison.
Richarlison left his homeland of Brazil in the summer of 2017 to sign for Watford from Fluminense, and has been capped 54 times for his national team.
Richarlison is divisive, but Tottenham may need him for a little while longer
Tottenham fans have a real love-hate relationship with Richarlison, as when he’s at his best, he looks every bit of a top-class striker in the Premier League and one who has been playing for Brazil since 2018.
On the flip side, he has scored just 28 goals in 120 appearances for Spurs, and that isn’t a good enough return for a player his standard.
However, with eight goals to his name so far this season, he’s well on course to smash his previous best scoring campaign in a Lilywhites shirt of 12 back in the 2023-24 term, and needs just six more appearances to play the most games in a single season for Tottenham too (35).
- Richarlison is scoring 0.49 goals per 90 minutes in the PL this season
- He scored five goals and got two assists in 24 games last term
- He’s created 14 chances and took 81 touches in the opposition box this season, per FotMob
And with Dominic Solanke struggling with injury and a misfiring Randal Kolo Muani for company in the centre-forward position, the truth is, Tottenham need Richarlison at this moment in time, and may continue to need him beyond the summer.
It’s all fine and well selling him, but if his departure leaves Tottenham without any striking depth, then recruiting another centre-forward whilst slowly weaning themselves off him may well be a more pragmatic approach.
