Piero Hincapie ready to quit Bayer Leverkusen now after Tottenham approach details

Tottenham Hotspur are in the hunt for new defenders this summer.

After multiple failures to secure a new attacking midfielder after James Maddison was ruled out long-term with an ACL injury, Spurs have left it until the final week for several new signings.

Last season saw both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero miss significant game time under Ange Postecoglou due to injury, and they are aiming to avoid a similar crisis.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie has been linked with a move to Tottenham, and the latest moves from both the player and the North London side have been revealed.

Tottenham make enquiry for Piero Hincapie amid Premier League interest

Hincapie has requested to leave Bayer Leverkusen before next Monday’s transfer deadline, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Leverkusen have faced a mass exodus this summer, with Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Jonathan Tah and Granit Xhaka all departing.

Hincapie looks to be the next name out of the door at the German giants, with Premier League clubs attentive to the situation.

Tottenham made an enquiry 10 days ago for the defender, with Leverkusen likely to hold out for his £51.9million release clause.

Piero Hincapie will be more reliable than Tottenham’s current selection

Hincapie has developed immensely under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso into one of the best progressive centre-backs in Germany.

The Ecuadorian would bring to Spurs not only solidity and calmness at the heart of defence, but also reliability.

The 24-year-old played more minutes than both Romero and van de Ven combined last season, while also possessing the passing qualities that both centre-halves have, with a higher duel success rate on top of that.

With Tottenham playing in four competitions this season after winning last season’s Europa League, a player of Hincapie’s experience will be vital for Thomas Frank to keep his squad fresh.
